"Either way, we're still on the journey"....
At times in life everything goes so smoothly. Everything we try is very easy for us and our days are full of hope; but at other times things can seem really hard. Everything we try to do seems to be a chore. It's as thoug our world is crashing down around us and it seems we will never reach our goal, our calling, our destiny. I was in a place in my life not to long ago when I was experienceing alot of turmoil; nothing was going right; everything was falling apart; and I was so discouraged feeling like I may never reach the things God has destined for me to accomplish. As I spent some time with the Lord one morning a scene began to play out in my mind. Jesus and I were in a small wooden boat out on the open sea. I could see the shore behind us where I knew we had been but I could not see the other side - my destination. As the scene came to life I watched the water start out smooth as glass then quickly turn to turbulent and rough waves. I held onto the boat tightly looking all around us and at our predicament. Not Jesus; He was just as calm as He could be. The Lord knew what I had been feeling in my heart and this is what He said to me:
"Lorrie, we're still on the journey. Don't give up and don't rush ahead. It has been a good year. We've been to the tree where healing and laughter have taken place. - (a story for another time.) We have been in the storm. We've been on the crashing waves. We've been on the shore. We've been out on a limb. Sometimes it's been rough and other times, as smooth as glass; easy as pie, but either way we are still on the journey."
The scene changed and Jesus and I were standing on the shore looking out over the ocean. I could see the horizon off in the distance. It was so bright I had to squint to look at it. He continued to speak:
"Look at the horizon. It's so bright and beautiful. That's how your future is. It's so bright you can hardly see. "
I suddenly thought of an old song that says, "My future's so bright, I've got to wear shades." It makes me giggle now thinking about it. You know, the Bible tells us that God has plans for us. Plans to prosper us and not to harm us, but to give us a hope and a future. It also says that all the days ordained for us were written in a book before one of them came to be. In other words God has our future all planned out and it is bright and beautiful. So bright I can hardly see. So bright I have to wear shades. lol. When you are feeling like you are going no where but backwards remember that no matter how hard things get at times, as long as your focus is on Jesus, you are still on the journey; and if you are still on the journey then you WILL get there. Your future is so bright, if I were you, I'd go buy some shades!
